How the Algonquins Lived

Tuesday, March 15th, 2016:

The Algonquin people resided in homes called wigwams, made from poles covered with elm-tree bark. In winter season the poles were covered with mats woven out of cattail stalks, since these were warmer than bark. The floor was earth that had actually been marked down with the feet. A fire was integrated in the middle of the floor and smoke left through a little hole in the roofing system. Raised platforms around the sides were utilized for resting and sitting.
